Le Palais: Taipei’s Longest-Standing 3 Michelin Star // Taipei, Taiwan
Located on the top floor of the Palais de Chine hotel, near Taipei’s Main Station, Le Palais was Taiwan’s only only three-star Michelin restaurant for five consecutive years. Despite hoping the restaurant would live up to the hype given that it’s run by a Hongkonger (aka, my people), it only lived up to three-star standards in price, not in flavor or creativity.
Eating in and on Clouds at Restaurant A // Taipei, Taiwan
The most anticipated restaurant opening in Taipei in 2023, Chef Alain Huang’s Restaurant A opened late last year and serves fine-dining French food made with Asian techniques and influences.
Thailand meets Taiwan at COAST // Taipei, Taiwan
COAST is a modern restaurant in Taipei, combining Southeast Asian flavor with Taiwanese ingredients. Coast is part of MMHG (MUME Hospitality Group), a group led by Michelin-starred chef Richie Lin that is quickly becoming a favorite in Taiwan. We enjoyed our experience at Michelin-starred Mume last April, and M (wisely) surprised me with a dinner at Coast for Valentine’s.
La Grande Table Marocaine // Marrakech, Morocco
La Grande Table Marocaine is the prized jewel of Royal Mansour’s restaurants, and though we’d already had 12 days of Moroccan food, we had to try this restaurant, if only to visit the renown property. What did we think? Was it worth the premium? Read on to find out.
Sharing a Lunch at Compartir // Barcelona, Spain
In 2014, three big names in gastronomy founded Disfrutar, a 2*-Michelin restaurant, in Barcelona. In 2022, they opened a sister restaurant, Compartir. We went there for lunch, and I think it will soon be either Bib Gourmand or earn a star.
Grilled Seafood, Vegetables, and Bread at Brat // London, England
Brat is one of those restaurants where the moment you walk in, you begin to celebrate food and chefs. The open kitchen welcomes you to watch turbots turned in cages over the flames, beef leaking fat as it sizzles on the grill, and breads being popped in and out of the pizza oven, then decorated with olive oil and anchovies.
Korean Skewers at Kochi // New York City
The Korean skewers of Kochi have won a Michelin star and a top spot on Timeouts best restaurant in NYC list. Innovative and traditional, the restaurant promised to be one we’d return to again and again. But will we? We went for a birthday dinner last year, and have to share our thoughts.
Gnocco Fritto and Pasta at Rezdôra // New York City
Michelin-starred Rezdôra is a super trendy restaurant in NYC, featuring traditional cuisine of the Emilia-Romagna region. But is this restaurant worth the hype? And is the pasta worth the price? We went for lunch recently and here are our thoughts.
Apples, Carrots, and Maltesers at Core by Clare Smyth // London, England
Ever since I watched Clare Smyth judge on Netflix’s The Final Table, she has become one of my chef crushes, and I have wanted to visit her restaurant.
The Chef’s Table at Belcanto // Lisbon, Portugal
At the top of every Lisbon restaurant list sits Belcanto, the Portuguese food jewel of the city. Run by Chef José Avillez, and awarded 2 Michelin stars in 2014, Belcanto was 42nd on 2021’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants, and 46th on 2022’s list.
Soul Searching at Alma // Lisbon, Portugal
When we decided we were headed to Lisbon for two weeks, the first thing I did was look for must-make restaurant bookings. Alma came up time and time again, as a 2 Michelin-starred and 50 Best Discovery restaurant.
Eating Emotions at Osteria Francescana // Modena, Italy
When M and I first started thinking about going to Italy, my first thought—before which cities we should visit, how many dishes of pasta we’d have to try, or what sundresses to bring—was that we’d have to try to get a reservation at Osteria Francescana.
