Exploring the World's Largest Falls // Iguazu Falls
When I visited Iguazu Falls as a young teenager, I decided it was one of the most beautiful places I had ever been. So on our trip to Brazil, visiting was a must do.
Iguazu Falls is the largest waterfall system in the world, and forms the boundary between Brazil and Argentina. These two countries have two parks that you can view the falls from, and both are spectacular and worth the trip.
We stayed in a hostel in Foz de Iguacu, a small town on the Brazilian side of the falls, an half hour or so outside the park. We found a super cute restaurant where the waiters spoke English and were incredibly kind.
We spent our first day on the Argentine side, and the views were stunning.
The Argentine side is known for giving visitors a more intimate falls experience, with an upper and lower circuit to really explore the falls in depth.
Everywhere we went, we saw Argentinians with their mate in canisters with cups and straws.
The next day, we came back for Brazil's views.
Just before leaving the park, we took a boat ride into the waterfalls that got us drenched. However, I would probably actually recommend the Argentine side for the boat ride because they get closer to the larger section of falls.
The other best thing about the park is its nature. Butterflies can almost always be seen, especially in the upper circuit, and coatis (also known as a hog-nosed coons) roam freely. They're utterly adorable, but their claws look terrifying.
As we were leaving, we could see the waterfalls from the plane, and got to wave goodbye to one of the most spectacular sights on earth.
